Ephesians 6:17
And take the helmet of salvation…
Why Helmets?
Helmets are for security. Most of us have one or have had one before. No having one when you need it can result in death or serious injury.
There is also a differnce in owning one and actually wearing it for protecion. Wearing a helmet for protection indicates that you are prepared for the situation before you.
Put on the mind of Christ. Protect your thought life.
17 For he put on righteousness as a breastplate, and an helmet of salvation upon his head; and he put on the garments of vengeance [for] clothing, and was clad with zeal as a cloak.
18 According to [their] deeds, accordingly he will repay, fury to his adversaries, recompense to his enemies; to the islands he will repay recompense.
19 So shall they fear the name of the Lord from the west, and his glory from the rising of the sun. When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord shall lift up a standard against him.
Isaiah 59:17-19
What is Salvation? Do you earn it, or do you receive it?
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: [it is] the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.
Ephesians 2:8-9
Salvation is given to you by God for: That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in [his] kindness toward us through Christ Jesus. Ephesians 2:7
When you go out into the world around you and you are wearing a helmet, everyone notices it. If you just own it, it will not be obvious you have it unless you wear it.
When you are wearing the Helmet of Salvation, people notice.
As a Christian, you are supposed to stand out, not blend in. People should figure out pretty quickly that there is something different about you. This starts in the renewing of your mind by the power of Jesus and being born again.
When you live in fear, anxiety, doubt and hesitation, you are not living in the way that Jesus has commanded you and you are not guarding your thought life with your Helmet on.
Over and over you are going to have life, the world, circumstances and people assailing you to compromise and just “blend in.” Imagine a hammer bouncing off your head verses it bouncing off a construction helmet instead.
When you are facing down the attacks that will come, remember this:
And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to [his] purpose.
Romans 8:28
Notice that it starts with “and we know…”
You have to realize every day that Christ paid the full price for your redemption. The Devil is real and he will send things against you to try to knock your head off with it. You have to keep that helmet on and keep putting it back on straight, just like your thought life.
