Today in our group we started out by talking about Solomon in the bible. He asked for wisdom from God and God loved that so much He gave him wisdom beyond what he asked.  We discussed how wisdom is the application of knowledge.  In a world full of information, we are great at learning and studying it, but not so much at applying it to our life. In the case of wisdom, its a matter of applying Godly knowledge to our lives which will bring wisdom.

1Hear, O children, the instruction of a father,
And pay attention [and be willing to learn] so that you may gain understanding and intelligent discernment.
2 
For I give you good doctrine;
Do not [a]turn away from my instruction.
3 
When I was a son with my father (David),
Tender and the only son in the sight of my mother (Bathsheba),
4 
He taught me and said to me,
“Let your heart hold fast my words;
Keep my commandments and live.

“Get [skillful and godly] wisdom! Acquire understanding [actively seek spiritual discernment, mature comprehension, and logical interpretation]!
Do not forget nor turn away from the words of my mouth.

“Do not [b]turn away from her (Wisdom) and she will guard and protect you;
Love her, and she will watch over you.
7 
“The beginning of wisdom is: Get [skillful and godly] wisdom [it is preeminent]!
And with all your acquiring, get understanding [actively seek spiritual discernment, mature comprehension, and logical interpretation].

We then moved on to the sewing lesson! Laura Farrar taught us some great tips on working with patterns and the basics of a sewing machine.

Here are some tips for working with a pattern:

1. Read all the instructions!
2. Determine your size by taking your measurements (waist bust, hips) and determine your fabric amounts on that 
3. Your pattern will also tell you what embellishments or if you need like sippers buttons and interfacing.
4. You tube is your FRIEND!  If you do not know how to do something or the instructions just don’t make sense, you tube / the internet is an amazing source for everything you need! We watched this video on how to make a dart in the meeting HERE
5. Open up all the patterns and determine which pieces you need for your design. Most patterns have options a, b,c,d  and you can mix and match them usually.
6. You can iron our your pattern to make it flatter if you need to along with your fabric.
7. When laying the pattern on your fabric be sure to note what parts lay on the folded end of your fabric 
8. Pin your pattern to the fabric and cut!

Now we also learned some functions of a sewing machine, which for some in the room had never touched before.  Again youtube is your friend and also the instruction manual of the sewing machine you use.  I use a singer basic machine that has served me well for 12 years!

We learned how to fill a bobbin, insert it and thread the machine. I learned what this device is used for… in all my years I have seen this thing and never knew what it did! It helps you thread a needle!!! WHO KNEW?!?!? Laura did.

Lastly we got to pin and take in a shirt for my friend!  It was a good exersice for our girls, although they were a little scared to do the stitching themselves! lol Im sure they would have done just fine!
